Technologist · Builder · Problem-solver

This is me.

I’m Jim Whelan. After 43 years at IBM, I’m still learning, building useful things, and helping people make technology work for them.

What I’m working on

Ideas are better when you build them.

My projects range from web platforms and community sites to practical technology help for real people.

Web & community projects

Lightweight websites, Linux servers, monitoring tools, and community-focused work—including a new site for the Plattsburgh Food Shelf.

Residential technology

I’m exploring straightforward, patient help for people who want their computers, Wi-Fi, TVs, and connected devices to simply work.

My story

Still curious.
Still building.

I began in electronics manufacturing and eventually became an IT Architect. Along the way, I learned how to see the whole problem, work through the details, explain things clearly, and create solutions people can depend on.

I retired from IBM in 2020, but retirement didn’t switch off my curiosity. I still enjoy turning an idea into something useful—and helping someone get past a technology problem that has been driving them nuts.

My approach is simple: listen first, speak plainly, and build the solution that fits the person and the problem.
